Registrations invited for Newcastle Logistics Precinct tender

Newcastle Logistics Precinct2

EnergyCo will develop the Newcastle Logistics Precinct, located next to the Port of Newcastle, to expand portside storage for vital equipment needed to build renewable energy projects across the state as part of the once-in-a-generation upgrade of NSW’s electricity system.

EnergyCo is inviting companies to register their interest to participate in a tender to design and build an open-air storage area at the Newcastle Logistics Precinct to support future storage needs.

The precinct will store oversize overmass renewable energy generation equipment including wind turbines and transformers.

The online invitation to register will close on 17 April 2026, with successful registrants meeting capability and experience requirements to be invited to participate in the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage in May 2026.

This project will create jobs and provide opportunities for local businesses to win work.

EnergyCo will host an industry briefing in August 2026 to connect smaller regional construction businesses with the shortlisted tenderers, creating opportunities for local businesses to connect, collaborate and explore ways to get involved.

The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is subject to planning and environmental approvals and will include an Environmental Impact Statement and a public exhibition period later this year.

EnergyCo Executive Director Project Interface and Strategic Coordination, Azaria Dobson said:

“The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is the gateway to our energy transformation.

“Our early market engagement has informed how we package delivery of the Newcastle Logistics Precinct and we are expecting strong interest.

“We are always looking for ways to maximise regional benefits as we transform the energy system.

“The industry briefing later in 2026 will help companies across the Hunter Region learn about the Newcastle Logistics Precinct, make valuable connections and explore ways to get involved.”

What is the Newcastle Logistics Precinct?

The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is a critical new hub that will support the delivery of reliable and affordable renewable energy to homes and businesses across NSW. It will expand portside storage for vital equipment – including wind turbines and transformers – needed to build renewable energy projects across the state.

The Precinct is one of several projects being delivered in the Hunter region as part of the transformation of our electricity system. It will ensure the Hunter remains at the heart of NSW’s energy future, opening the door to clean technology investment and new opportunities for local communities and businesses.

What happens next?

The procurement process will run through 2026 with the formal procurement stage, known as the Request for Tender, which involves shortlisted EOI applicants preparing detailed tenders to be assessed by EnergyCo, expected to begin in early 2027.
