Newcastle Seafood Festival
Presented by the Throsby Basin Business Chamber and City of Newcastle as an activation between both business and community, the Inaugural Newcastle Seafood Festival is set to become a destination event on NSW’s Tourism calendar and is a Feature Event of the Newcastle Food Month.
The Throsby Basin area has long been regarded as the seafood capital of Newcastle, based around the five villages of Carrington, Islington, Maryville, Tighes Hill and Wickham, including the iconic Newcastle Seafood Markets and Australia’s Best Yacht Club, Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.
From Friday lunch 9th April to Sunday dinner of 11th April, over 30 pubs, clubs, restaurants and takeaways in the area will be putting on their best, most creative and impressive seafood dishes to wow our taste buds. Customers vote who will win Newcastle’s Best Seafood Dish plus go into the draw to win a 5 Star Luxury Weekend staying at the stunning Sofitel Harbour Rocks.
Other highlights over the weekend include the Fish Co-op Open Days on both Saturday and Sunday, an Inaugural prawn peeling competition to find Newcastle’s King [or Queen!] Prawn peeler, a family fishing competition SNAG & SNAP, an all ages art competition judged on Sunday afternoon, Seafood Masterclasses run by NorEast Bistro’s Tony Harrison, an onboard sailing degustation and great seafood and live entertainment.
So come along, walk the marina, meet the fisherman and view their boats, tour the back of house at the Co-op to see how they prepare the seafood, and of course buy some great seafood to enjoy with a picnic along the foreshore.
If you love seafood you will love this weekend in the five villages of the Throsby Basin.
