Emma Avery

AUSTRALASIAN MUTUALS INST.

Greater Building Society Internal Communication Specialist Emma Avery has been appointed to the Board of the Australasian Mutuals (AM) Institute.
Emma was one of five global customer owned financial institution staff members, was the only Australian to be awarded a World Council Young Credit Union People scholarship in 2014 and was named the Customer Owned Banking Association’s Australian Emerging Leader in 2012. She is also Chairperson of HMRI’s Pulse young professionals’ fundraising committee.

Ian Gray, Newcastle local and principal of CDG Law Singleton, has joined forces with Rethink Financial Group to create Rethink Law. Ian is heading up Rethink Law as the principal and will also be actively practicing law to support clients across business and commercial law, succession planning, family law and property and conveyancing law and more.

Suzie Losanno, has joined Harris Wheeler Lawyers as a special counsel within the Commercial group. Suzie’s expertise spans corporate advisory, transactional work and compliance. She has assisted public and private companies to structure and deliver numerous challenging and complex transactions in compliance with regulatory requirements. Her experience includes acting for corporates, financial institutions, private equity and investors on domestic and international transactions.

Newcastle professional John O’Connor has been appointed as a Licensed Business Broker with LINK. John holds over 30 years’ experience in accounting, banking and finance in the Hunter. He was the Principal of Forsythes Financial Services for 14 years, concluding with the successful merger with ipac Securities. John will be working from the new LINK office located at Level 2, 59 Ridley Street, Charlestown.

Conrad Curry is the newest senior member of the health law team at Catherine Henry Partners after joining as Special Counsel in 2014.
As previous partner of two midsized Newcastle firms, Conrad has enormous experience in civil litigation, particularly personal injury litigation. In this role, he focuses on seeking redress for victims of negligence enacted by medical and allied health care professionals.

Ashleigh McPherson has been appointed Property Lawyer at Keystone Lawyers. She will specialise in conveyancing and property related matters including purchases off the plan. Ashleigh has worked for several Hunter firms as a paralegal and solicitor.
The UoN graduate has degrees in finance and law. A keen sportswomen, she is also a volunteer for St Vincent de Paul and a member of the Law Society of NSW Speakers Bureau.

Rethink Accounting has welcomed Laura Hughes as their principal accountant. Laura is a CPA with a decade of business accounting experience. She will be supporting small to medium businesses with management accounting, allowing her to focus on their core skills.

Lexus of Newcastle has appointed Nicholas Bonney as Business Manager at its Broadmeadow dealership. Nicholas has more than 15 years’ experience in motor vehicle finance and insurance. He also has small business experience after five years as an independent finance broker.

Louise Saxton has joined local agency, Headjam, as account manager following a very successful stint in Scotland where she spent three years working with Contagious and then Maclean TM. Born and bred in the Hunter, Louise has a Bachelor of Communication from UoN.
She has extensive experience in brand strategy and digital communication management that will complement the agency’s current work in the education, health, arts and community sectors.

McCullough Robertson has added a new Partner to their Newcastle office with the announcement of Aimee Travis (nee Hyde). Known for her work as in-house counsel for the Tinkler Group, Aimee brings international experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer, including mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and banking and finance.
The University of Newcastle graduate is delighted to return to her home town to put her skills and experience to work for local industry leaders.

Martin Coates has been appointed Chairman of WEA Hunter. He has been on the board of the quality education provider for the past nine years and part of the board executive team for the past four years. He has extensive experience in business and project management and in a career spanning more than 30 years has held senior positions in the telecommunications and local government sectors. Mr Coates is currently Regional Director of Defence Housing Australia and has an MBA from the University of Newcastle.
