Expo a one stop shop linking jobseekers to career and training opportunities

Whether it’s a teen on the hunt for their first job, a professional looking to take the next step in their career or a local looking for training opportunities, the Singleton Careers Expo will point them in the right direction.

The all-new expo will be open to the entire Singleton community to find local jobs and training information and advice at Singleton Civic Centre on Wednesday 7 August from 3.30 – 7.30pm.

A key initiative in Singleton Council’s new Skills and Employment Program, the expo is being hosted by Council in partnership with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Training Services NSW, Workforce Australia Local Jobs, and Business Singleton.

Damian Morris, Council’s Acting Director Organisation and Community Capacity said the expo would help meet the aims of the Skills and Employment Program to connect jobseekers to training, education and employers and create strong networks that will support the evolving local economy and jobs market.

“The Singleton Careers Expo will be a one-stop-shop for the community to explore local job and education opportunities, find up-to-date information about training and workshops, have their resumes reviewed and interview technique refined, network with potential employers and so much more,” he said.

“What makes this expo such a great resource to our community is that it is being driven by Council and a diverse range of employment, education and training stakeholders that are invested in supporting locals to find jobs and provide them with the tools that they need to gain employment.

“We’re expecting to have over 30 stallholders available on the day, ready to provide the Singleton community with advice, information and opportunities.”

To further support the community, a free bus service will be operating on 7 August to shuttle people from Singleton Heights and Hunterview to the Civic Centre and there will be children’s activities available.

Grahame Irwin from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations said the expo would be a great opportunity for locals to hear firsthand about the jobs available in Singleton now and in the future.

“Locally driven events such as the Singleton Careers Expo help support our local communities and showcase the amazing opportunities and potential in the region,” he said.

“The Skills and Employment Program is working to promote Singleton as an amazing place to live, work and play. We are proud to be supporting this pivotal event.”
